P.S. In looking at different outfitter reviews I have seen people expecting long orientations, free showers, brand new gear, changed permit dates, etc. Remember, the outfitter's job is not to teach you everything. Remember that their septic systems are fragile and expensive to maintain on thin soil- so yeah, showers cost money. Remember, if they used all brand new gear you would be paying a lot more. Remember that the US Forest Service is the one who issues specific permits for specific dates and they are limited. Keep your expectations reasonable, treat people with dignity and respect, and you will have a great time!
We got their "food and canoe" package and felt we got a lot of value for our money. Every meal was packaged and labeled separately, and plenty of extra snacks and beverages were provided, as well as all the cooking and cleaning gear we would need.
THIS IS A GREAT FAMILY RUN RESORT WITH EXCEPTIONAL EQUIPMENT. JUST BEING THERE ON THE WATER IS ENOUGH. CATCHING FISH IS A PLUS YOU WILL ENJOY.
Posting on behalf of my husband, when checking in we were rushed out so fast we didn't realize there wasnt a locator in the boat, we asked for one to be sent out to us but never was, because of that I left after only a few days of a 7 day trip. When we got back to resort we told them we had a several hour wait & even though we were leaving 5 days early, they took our boat & put it away & told us to wait under a tree. I won't go back
Above-and-Beyond Customer Service with a Smile! This was our second time booking with La Tourelle's, and we will never use anyone else. Not only are Bob, his wife Allison, and his staff knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly, but they spent as much time as we wanted/needed educating us about trip routes and skills we would need in the wilderness area.
Wow.... what a top notch place. Bob, his family and staff are absolutely wonderful. The facilities are clean, the cabins are moderen, the grounds are kept very neat and things are ran orderly. The staff will help you with anything. Thank you LaTourells for a wonderful week!
What topped-off our trip though was how they came to our rescue on our second-to-last day. We got caught in a storm and our tent was soaked through. We found a high cliff where we got phone signal and called Bob and Allison. They were able to pin point us on the map based off our description, compare that to what was on the weather radar, and tell us when there was a break enough to start paddling toward them. Even though we arrived at night- well after they closed, Bob greeted us with hot coffee, dry towels, and a clean bunk house all free of charge. La Tourell's could not have made this a more memorable experience. No other outfitter/resort in the area even compares.
WE HAVE BEEN THERE MANY TIMES. GREAT EXPERIENCE ON THE LAKE CHAIN & THE PORTAGE INTO BASSWOOD IS UNIQUE. FISHING HAS BEEN GREAT TOO.
I have used LaTourell's to outfit the most recent 2 of the 9 canoe trips I have taken into the Boundary Waters. Their outfitting service is top notch and still reasonably priced. All gear and supplies are well packed and well maintainted, orientation is brief (as it should be) and it gives all of the essentials- regulations, how to use their specific gear, etc, and they even give you water bottles to keep and take home! I will always advocate for this family owned and down to earth business!
