We've now come here 5 years. They have always given great advice about canoe routes, fishing locations and tackle. They've always been kind and very helpful. I'd recommend them every time!
This was an experience to say the least. We arrived to the facility late Wednesday night. They were very kind and accommodating when we arrived to get everything finalized. There were five of us and we stayed in the community bunkhouse that night, there were two other elderly men that were also sharing our community bunk.
All in all we had a great time in the boundary waters but will probably be exploring all our options for future trips and double checking our drivers information, double checking all our gear gets loaded and our drop location.
Besides some unforeseen weather our time camping and at the actual campsite was very enjoyable.
When we got back to the 'drop-point' we called the office and confirmed that they were picking us up where they dropped us off. They were very confused about what we were saying, and for an explanation on why we were dropped in the wrong location, the excuse was that the drive was "new". There was no sort of apology or offer of a refund to compensate for the extra hassle & destroyed fishing pole, we were given free t-shirts.
After a horrendous canoe back Sunday morning, we found a shorter portage to where the driver had dropped us off. We ended up only having to carry our packs & canoes about a mile down a road instead of two miles through the dense forest. We had a local person pass us and mention that he has lived there 25 years and has never seen anyone walking with canoes where we were walking.
Our trip began at 4:00am Thursday morning when the two elderly men in our community bunk decided it was time to get up and have a loud conversation in the community area. We loaded into our van with our packs and canoes at 6:30am. The driver dropped us off at the drop point around 7:00am where we realized the fishing poles never made it into the van, they were left propped on the trailer, where one pole was ultimately ran over. We were 20 minutes into our portage when we realized this was not the right location. We spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out where we were. We discovered we had been dropped off at a hiking trail and not our canoe entry point. We had to then proceed approximately 2 miles through thick dense forest with our packs and canoes. Luckily we eventually found water and navigated our way through the lake to orient ourselves with the surroundings.
Great experience from start to finish. The staff and owner there really know how to deliver a great canoeing/camping experience. They also have extensive knowledge of the different lakes, campsites and trails and offer good advice on what to expect and levels of difficulty for each one. Highly recommend!
I was so impressed with all the help Lynn, John and their staff provided. This was my first time using Voyager North. I had 5 dads, 7 kids and everything was planned very well. The equipment was top notch. The meals were very good. All the kids had more than plenty to eat. if you are looking for an outfitter that will pay attention to all the details and make your trip smooth and memorable look no further!
For more than 10 years we've been relying on Voyageur North Outfitters to supply us. John and Amber are top-notch and they always give us great advice for our trips. We usually stay overnight in the lodge it's always kept spotless. All their Canoes and equipment remain in good condition.
